Southend FOI requests,

Dear Alex Parsons,

Re: Freedom of Information Request

I am writing regarding your request for information, which was received on
26.06.18.

In that request you asked us for information about the administration of
Freedom of Information requests.

I can confirm that the search for the information you requested has been
completed and I can advise you of the following:

1. How many people are employed to deal with FOI?

We employ one member of staff whose primary task is to support the central
recording and co-ordinating of Freedom of Information requests and
responses. In addition, each Department has specialist officers who work
with their colleagues to source the required information and respond. We
also have a specialist officer who authorises the use of exemptions,
advises on complex cases and monitors the overall process. All these posts
have other roles and responsibilities in addition to Freedom of
Information responsibilities and it is not therefore possible to quantify
the resource to answer your question.

2. What is the budget for administering FOI?

There is no specific budget for administering FOI.

3. Do you use case management software for FOI? If so, which one?

We use a module of our performance management system from Pentana
Performance.

4. Do you publish a disclosure log?

No.

If you wish to discuss any of the above, please contact me. Please
remember to quote the reference number above in any future communications.

If you are unhappy with the service you have received in relation to your
request and wish to request a review of our response, you should write to
the Group Manager – Policy, Engagement and Communication, Department of
the Chief Executive, PO Box 6, Civic Centre, Victoria Avenue,
Southend-on-Sea, Essex, SS2 6ER.

If you are not content with the outcome of your review, you can make a
complaint under the Council’s complaints process by writing to Corporate
Complaints Officer, Department of the Chief Executive, PO Box 6, Civic
Centre, Victoria Avenue, Southend-on-Sea, Essex, SS2 6ER.

You can also apply directly to the Information Commissioner (ICO) for a
decision although generally the ICO cannot make a decision unless you have
exhausted the Council’s complaints procedure. The Information Commissioner
can be contacted at: The Information Commissioner’s Office, Wycliffe
House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire, SK9 5AF.

Yours sincerely,

Val Smith
