Trinity House is not subject to the Freedom of Information Act 2000, however, Trinity House has agreed to act within the spirit of the Act, and as such will provide information when requested, with the exception of information that is exempt under the Freedom of Information Act 2000. Trinity House is the General Lighthouse Authority for England, Wales, the Channel Islands and Gibraltar. The Corporation is also a Deep Sea Pilotage Authority. The statutory responsibilities of Trinity House are set out in the Merchant Shipping Act 1995. On 7 January 2011 the Government announced a consultation on extending the scope of the Freedom of Information to cover additional bodies. This authority is referred to in the announcement.
