The Office for Product Safety and Standards covers general (non-food) consumer product safety, excluding vehicles, medicines and medical devices, or workplace equipment, which are covered by other agencies.

The organisation's predecessor was the Regulatory Delivery directorate, the Office for Product Safety and Standards has taken on responsibility for "Primary Authority" and "Better Business for All".
