On 1 April 2014 the FCA took on responsibility for regulating consumer credit, including credit cards, personal loans.

Prior to 1 April 2013, the FCA the was known as the Financial Services Authority (FSA). It should be noted that the FSA's prudential regulatory function was transferred to the Prudential Regulatory Authority.
